What: It seems Christmas is going to come around a little early this year. After what seemed like forever, the Bravado EP has finally been set to drop November 15th through EMI/Virgin Australia! Unfortunately there isn't much out from the Australian duo right now; but after this track, that'll change soon enough. In the meantime, they've been getting mixed by some pretty sick people. What: When Kanye West dropped "Love Lockdown" at the end of MTV's Video Music Awards earlier this month, it seems a lot of people weren't too sure what to make of it. But this track shocked our asses, got us on our feet, and has us dancing completely deliriously. Guess it doesn't technically count if we've been shakin' it all night and still haven't gone to bed yet, but whatever. Tonight is Eighties Night at one of our favorite venues, and this is the perfeeeect jam to rock everybody's neon spandex off. Edwin Van Cleef attacked DatA's latest single "Rapture" and blew it up into a sparkling 80's masterpiece that's just brilliant. It's flashy and it's retro and it's gritty in all the right places. What: The LPP remix made me think of this video, and while the "Stress" parody may be a pretty big joke, the new MMMatthais remix of the Dior Homme '09 show soundtrack "Planisphere" definitely is NOT. I posted on this guy a while back when he had another batch of mixes, but he recently finished this Digitalism track, and now he's hit the Justice mix that's been all over. MMMatthias absolutely decimates his remixes, and stubs out everything that tries to come close. Nowadays it seems seems some producers try to pump out a remix as fast as they can, and it ends up being overly-formulaic, or just really really shitty. But MMMatthias works his mixes so well, his shit is completely ill, I think he's an absolute powerhouse. Check him out.

What: Dublab and Creative Commons have launched one of the most innovative and massively interesting online art exhibits I've ever seen. It's called Into Infinity, and it comprises a collection of ready-to-remix 12-inch circular artworks accompanied by 8-second music loops created by an array of artists from around the world. But the greatest part is that all of Into Infinity's works are available for download under a license that gives the public legal rights to share, remix, and reuse all of the pieces of art for noncommercial purposes. "Sampling, remixing, and repurposing other people's work has resulted in some of the greatest art of our times," says Eric Steuer, Creative Commons' creative director. "With this project, we want to make the statement that this sort of creativity should not only be legal, but also explicitly encouraged." I couldn't agree more.

What: This mix has been around for a while (originally came out as part of 2006's Lucky Boy on Ed Banger), but if you haven't listened to it yet it's definitely worth picking up. Banglater's edit adds nearly five minutes of the head-slamming beat that creeps up your back in the most pulse-pounding, disorienting, and entirely enveloping sound imaginable. It's the kind of stuff that gets your heartbeat up for that flat-out high speed burn across the country in the pouring rain, with the speakers up to levels that have you waiting for one to blow out.

What: ... O-to-the-izz-N, R-to-the-izz-A, that's the anthem, get ya damn hands up. Coca Cola is certainly gettin' their groove on to these 109 seconds of flute shots, violin stabs, and Chinese wood drum chops - the've got it backing the official Beijing Olympic Games TV worldwide commercial with Yao and LeBron. But due to some extemely old and uncleared samples on Onra's work, Coca Cola edited down this amazing track off of his brilliantly quirky instrumental hip hop album Chinoiseries, released earlier this year. French-born Onra traveled to Vietnam to compile vinyl by crate digging for vintage Vietnamese pop records on the streets and in the flea markets of Saigon. And when the original record companies have gone out of business more than 25 years ago, and when the only information about the artists is written on the album sleeve in broken Vietnamese, clearing copyrights gets understandably more difficult. But nonetheless, Onra's record is an eclectic collection of one- to two-minute tracks that promotes the brilliance of the original material while rooting it through the delicious crackle and hiss of old vinyl in a crisp format that's fly as hell and rough around the edges. Who: Cansei De Ser Sexy

What: CCS's extremely poppy electro-rock sound seems like a nonstop dance party full of shouted vocal lines and rapid lyrics that gets you groovin' for sure. Just about everything about this Brazilian five-some is bright and plastic and eye-catching. After signing to Sub Pop Records in 2006, CCS enjoyed moderate success, touring the United States and Europe with Diplo and Bonde Do Rol ê. It was not until 2007, however, that CCS caught an unlikely break when their song "Music Is My Hot Hot Sex" was used in a worldwide television commercial by Apple for the iPod Touch. Check out the commercial here. Having just dropped this new song on their website, CCS departs from their heavily-electronic sound as they gear up to release their new album Donkey in July.

What: This multiculti London four-piece doesn't just maintain the post-dance-punk scene, it blows the fucking lid off. In February 2005, the band released their critically acclaimed debut album Silent Alarm, which reached #3 on UK charts and won NME's 2005 Album of the Year. Two years later, they dropped their sophomore album, A Weekend In The City, hitting #2 on the charts and meeting positive reviews by critics and fans alike. Numerous B-Side compilations, hidden tracks, remixes, and unreleased tracks exist throughout the internet, available through fansites and torrent downloads, and on November 12, 2007 Bloc Party released a new single entitled "Flux," prompting discussions of the forthcoming album. BP explains it will have the "rawness" of Silent Alarm, but the "experience" of A Weekend In The City. Whatever the sound is, we can't wait!

Who: Annie

What: The sun is definitely shining down on this Norwegian pop DJ. First earning recognition in 1999 when her single "The Greatest Hit", which samples Madonna's "Everybody", Annie became an underground club monster in Norway and Britain. In 2004, her song "Heartbeat" was chosen as Pitchfork Media's #1 Single of the year before it was officially released. Anniemal won Best Pop Album and Annie won Best Newcomer at the Spellemannsprisen, an annual Norwegian music award ceremony. Her second album, Don't Stop is slated to drop in July 2008 on Island Records.

What: A deadly sound indeed. This Danish pop duo, characterized by close two-part vocal harmonies, hard-edged electric guitar, and liberal doses of noise are "not scared of being blunt." With the structural and chordal simplicity of 50's and 60's rock and intense electric instrumentation, driving beats, and dark lyrics, these guys make for a very rough, distorted, yet catchy sound. Who: Jean Jacques Perrey

What: Born in 1929, Perrey is a French electronic music producer and early pioneer in the genre. Known well as a member of the influential group Perry and Kingsley, the guy toured Europe with the first Ondioline, the ancestor of modern-day synthesizers. Working closely with Robert Moog (yes, of Moog Music synthesizers), this guy helped start up the "far out electronic entertainment" we get to rock out to today. Waaay ahead of his time, JJP spend weeks throwing down tracks with scissors, splicing tape, and tape recorders that are still pretty damn excellent today.

Who: Ghostland Observatory

What: This spoooky electro-dance soulrock duo from Austin, Texas is absolutely incredible. <---- (Period). Front man Aaron Behrens provides uniquely energetic vocals and stage performances (occasionally playing guitar) while Thomas Ross Turner, who is often cape-clad, rocks out on the drums and synth. Releasing their first full-length album delete.delete.i.eat.meat in 2005, followed by Paparazzi Lightning within a year, Ghostland Observatory put themselves out there and gained a spot at Austin City Limits. With another spectacular album Robotique Majestique released in March of 2008, these guys will be on the road this summer, hitting smaller venues as well as larger festivals like Sasquatch and Bonnaroo.

Who: Klaxons

What: Propelling a complex accent of electronic, New Wave, hip-house, electro breakbeat and rock music, the Klaxons have blended an incendiary sound that has been described as an acid-rave sci-fi punk-funk tone. Not to scare you off though... this isn't the beat-driven, repetitive music of some underground rave-dungeon. The heavy-stylized dance-rock of the Klaxons is a wonderfully melodic and incredibly enjoyable piece. Go ahead and check out 2007's Myths of the Near Future (reached #2 on UK charts) or their two-disc A Bugged Out Mix By Klaxons which contains over twenty-five Klaxons remixes of various popular tracks. Trust me, these guys are NOT to be overlooked.

Who: Sunset Rubdown

What: Beginning as a solo project by Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade but growing rapidly, Montreal's now-five-piece indie rock band Sunset Rubdown has grown to achieve wide-spread critical acclaim. After releasing a self-titled EP and the full-length Shut Up I Am Dreaming in 2006, Sunset Rubdown moved to a new label, Indiana-based Jagjaguwar, and dropped 2007's Random Spirit Lover, said to be one of the year's best albums by a number of critics and music publications... and we definitely agree. Who: Faces On Film

What: Even the best musicians have a good ear when it comes to describing their band's sound. Just ask Mike Fiore, Peter Schaefer, and Ted Gallagher of Faces On Film.

"Sort of like woozy, American punch-drunk rock music," tries Fiore. "A little New Wave-y."

"With a pretty folksy approach," adds Gallagher. "Outspoken."

Hmm...

"Once I broke my wrist, and we got a fill-in drummer," Schaefer remembers, after a pause. "I got to watch us perform -- and hey, I enjoyed it."

And so do we. Ambiguous descriptions aside, Faces on Film is an excellent Boston-based group with an incredible, laid-back attitude - and having finally released their first full-length LP, be sure to check out The Troubles on myspace.

Who: Vampire Weekend

What: While not filming home movies with Ra Ra Riot about dispatching ghoulish hordes on Cape Cod, New York's Vampire Weekend is touring the United Kingdom with the Shins, playing Letterman and SNL, jumping in on Rolling Stone's 100 Best Songs of 2007, and enjoying a week-long feature on MTV. Originating from the Ben Loxo Du Taccu music site and echoing quietly throughout the blog world until public attention picked up on Stereogum, VW's self-dubbed "Upper West Side Soweto" (a distinctly South African sound) has generated tremendous momentum. With a full spring of national and international touring ahead of them, including several notable dates at Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Pitchfork Music Festival, Vampire Weekend is sure to get you movin' and groovin' and feeling gooood.

Who: I'm From Barcelona

What: Having gone through the chicken pox, the German measles, and the scarlet fever, 29-member Swedish group I'm From Barcelona proves they are one of the sickest eclectic rock groups around. On an early 2006 EP Don't Give Up on Your Dreams, Buddy! and now with their debut full-length Let Me Introduce My Friends, I'm From Barcelona creates grand indie pop symphonies with a fantastic collection of clarinets, saxophones, flutes, trumpets, banjos, accordions, kazoos, guitars, drums, and keyboards (to name a few). At this point, it seems like we need to get these guys on one side, The Polyphonic Spree on the other, and throw down some good ol' fashioned tug-o-war. Just let 'em have at it for world domination of the choral symphonic rock scene.
